car insurance premiums for women

The European Court recently ruled that it was illegal for insurers to discriminate by gender in determining insurance premiums, which means that companies that received a score of young women and low-risk drivers and thus charge less now need to charge younger men.

In a recent survey among female drivers aged 17 and 24, a dizzying 35 percent of them said that if the premium they would pay was considerably increased, they would feel compelled to ride without insurance. 12 percent of the 3,000 women surveyed reported an increase of 25 percent or more to force them to stop driving, and many said they wanted to seek other employment to find enough money to insure their car.

The decision of the ECJ, according to the Association of British Insurers cost female drivers aged 25 years about 25 percent of additional auto insurance premiums, while male drivers under 25 will see a decrease in premiums about 10 percent.
